KEYNOTE ABSTRACT
CBT for Couples; roadmap to relationship
wellbeing
Marriage is associated with lower depression
rates compared with being single in men. Even
divorced men who remarried were found to have
markers of lower depression risk, higher
cognitive and physical function, higher stress
resilience and socioeconomic advantages than men
who remained divorced. At face value; marriage
is associated with a statistically significant
elevated risk of depression. Yet not everyone is
blessed with this protecting shield. Many
couples struggle to find the common ground in
their relationship. Emotional interdependence is
partners' emotions being linked to each other
across time. It is often considered a key
characteristic of healthy relationships. But is
this actually the case? Studies demonstrate that
the majority of couples (64%) did not
demonstrate strong signs of emotional
interdependence. Relational well-being was
considered by Aaron Beck in his seminal works.
The presentation outlines pillars for successful
couple’s therapy using cognitive &
behavioral therapy.
