KEYNOTE ABSTRACT
Narrative analysis: application in gender
violence
Narrative research is often used as an
overarching category for a variety of research
practices that focus on the interpretation of
first-person accounts of experience. Generally,
however, narrative research refers to the
analysis of some form of story telling derived
from long interviews, biographies, journals, and
diaries. It is a method that is widely
applied in gender and women’s studies and
particularly to elucidate our understanding of
gender-based violence; its manifestation,
aetiology and ways to combat it. This
presentation will provide an overview of the use
of narrative analysis in studies on gender-based
violence elucidating how this method has enabled
a multidimensional understanding of gender,
power and identity in society.
