KEYNOTE ABSTRACT
Recent developments in ‘Mobile Mindfulness’
Following the advance of e-health interventions
in clinical psychology, recent years also saw an
upsurge of mobile health applications (or:
m-health apps) for smartphones and tablets. In a
parallel development, interest in the study and
practice of mindfulness has enormously
increased. This keynote discusses the point
where both developments meet: m-health apps for
mindfulness practice, or more simply:
mindfulness apps. Specifically, an overview and
critical discussion of available mindfulness
apps is presented, and a number of recent study
findings are presented. These include a
randomized controlled trial of a mindfulness
app, findings on the efficacy of this app in
specific subpopulations, and preliminary
findings on the efficacy of mindfulness apps as
an adjunct to face-to-face mindfulness courses.
