My name is Stefanie J. Schmidt
and I am a member of the executive board of
the Swiss Association for Behaviour
Modification (AVM-CH). I work at the
University Hospital of Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in Bern in
Switzerland as a head of the section for
psychotherapy research. After having finished
my Ph.D., which dealt with Cognitive
Remediation Therapy in schizophrenia patients
in group settings, my main research focus is
now on the early detection and intervention of
mental disorders, in particular psychotic
disorders. Moreover, since 2010 I work as a
clinical psychologist at the Early Recognition
and Intervention Centre for mental crisis
(FETZ Bern).
INVITED SYMPOSIUM
ABSTRACT
Empirical evidence and
implementation of cognitive-behavioral group
psychotherapy
Group
psychotherapy has attracted increasing
interest in recent years due its economic
benefits and study results showing that
psychotherapy carried out in group settings
produced similar effects as in
individual-based settings. Furthermore,
evidence suggests that in particular group
cohesion may be a powerful mechanism of change
of psychotherapeutic interventions, especially
with regard to social and emotional outcomes.
Against this background, this symposium will
summarize recent developments in group
psychotherapy in patients with insomnia with a
particular focus on its dynamics and
motivational aspects and in patients with an
affective disorder. Furthermore, concepts of
group-psychotherapy specifically developed for
patients with substance use disorders as well
as for adolescents with poor resilience will
be presented.
